Fresh from being named Time’s Person of the Year, the pontiff has been awarded the title of Best Dressed Man 2013, by Esquire magazine.
Pope Francis was praised for his simple manner of dress, which it claims, has “signaled a new era (and for many, renewed hope) for the Catholic Church.”
The buzz surrounding Pope Francis goes beyond his dapper duds — the pontiff is the most talked about person on the Internet.
The magazine admits the decision is “unconventional.”
The mag quotes Evan Blackman, assistant professor of menswear design at FIT as saying: “His mode of dressing really does reflect the mindset behind it. I remember when John Paul II was buried in those opulent red shoes, I thought that was very reflective of his approach to being a person functioning in a role.”
Since becoming head of the Catholic Church last March, Pope Francis has not only won Time’s coveted award, but it was also revealed that he was the most talked about human being on the Internet.
Despite the church still being beset by scandal, the Pope has won admirers for his humble approach, including gestures such hugging a man with tumors all over his body.
